"There is no charity without encounter"

We are Pietro and Luisa, a young married couple aged 35 and 34, who have decided to live Holy Week together with other volunteer brothers and sisters, the Missionary Oblate Sisters of Mary Immaculate, and the Franciscan brothers, in the heart of the city of Tetouan in Morocco. A unique and extraordinary experience of charity through which, day after day, we have learned to seek the face of Christ in others.

Beyond living together, we have been involved in a volunteer experience at the Nour Association, where we worked alongside children with cerebral palsy and different kinds of functional diversity. Encountering this reality not only stirred our hearts, but also led us to reflect on the value of Charity, teaching us that it is necessary to set aside prejudices and preconceptions in order to truly encounter our brother or sister.

The Muslim community welcomed us with joy and openness, and this was enough to build bonds of love, through which we were able to deepen a human relationship in which differences of language, religion, and culture disappear, making space for an encounter with the one source of Love: the living Christ.

We learned that there is no Charity without “encounter,” and that the Lord speaks to you precisely within that encounter.

So we learned that there is no Charity without “encounter,” and that the Lord speaks to you precisely within that encounter. One must prepare the heart, let Him enter, and allow oneself to be transformed…

For us, the mission was an opportunity to rediscover ourselves as a fruitful married couple within the community. It strengthened our desire to keep our home open to others, to create spaces of encounter where we can share bread and everyday life. We feel grateful to have received the gift of living this great experience, which has left an indelible mark on our story as husband and wife.
